Altay
Altay
„Entering the area, is like you entering a parallel world and the journey takes place at many different levels.“
Nikolai Shodoev
In shamanistic animism of Siberian native traditions there is a belief in a nature animated and pervaded by spiritual beings in all natural objects and natural forces. The Altay (golden mountain) was for he natives always a place where the human can get in contact with the spirits. The Altay is an huge row of mountains in the south of Siberia and is situated on 3 continents (Kazakhstan, Mongolia and China). The Altay is in many esoteric and spiritual circles regarded as a huge enchanted and holy place and therefore a magnet for searching minds, seeking for mystic or transcendent experience, mostly through a guru, local shamans or inspiration by literature. N. K. Roerich (1887-1947) an well known painter, writer, traveller and archaeologist in Russia, did long term expeditions in the 20ies through Siberia’s Altay, Mongolia and Tibet and wrote about the legendary Shambala and its northern entry in the Altay in his tea- chings of Agni Yoga. This connection creates a new Legend of Altay and inspires many people to do their own journey in the search for the doors of the magic world of Shambala.
